🥬 Quick Cabbage Patties (Fritters)
Ingredients (Makes 8–10 patties)
3 cups cabbage, finely shredded
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 eggs
½ cup flour (all-purpose) or ½ cup chickpea flour (gluten-free option)
½–1 tsp salt (to taste)
½ tsp black pepper
Optional seasonings:
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp paprika
Fresh herbs (dill, parsley, or cilantro)
Oil for frying
Instructions
1. Prep the vegetables
Finely shred the cabbage.
Add the chopped onion.
Place both in a bowl and sprinkle with a pinch of salt.
Gently squeeze the mixture for 20–30 seconds to soften the cabbage slightly (optional but helps bind better).
2. Make the batter
Add the 2 eggs to the cabbage mixture and mix well.
Add the flour (all-purpose or chickpea) and stir until evenly coated.
Add salt, pepper, and any optional seasonings. The mixture should be thick and hold together; if too wet, add 1–2 tbsp more flour.
3. Fry
Heat 2–3 tbsp oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Scoop about 2 tablespoons of mixture per patty and place into the pan.
Flatten gently with a spatula.
Cook 3–4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crisp.
4. Drain & serve
Remove patties and place on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
Serve warm with:
Sour cream or yogurt
Garlic sauce
Ketchup
Sweet chili sauce
⭐ Tips
For crisper patties , fry in a slightly hotter pan and avoid overcrowding.
For healthier fritters , you can pan-fry with minimal oil or bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15–20 minutes , flipping halfway.
Chickpea flour gives a slightly nutty flavor and helps them stay gluten-free.
