Ingredients
- 2 large eggs
- A pinch of salt
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- Zest of 1 lemon
- 50 g (3.5 tbsp) melted butter
- 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 3 apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- Optional:
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- Powdered sugar for dusting
ā Instructions
1. Prep
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a small round cake pan, tart dish, or 8-inch baking pan.
- Peel the apples and slice them very thin (this is what gives the dessert its creamy, rich texture).
2. Make the Batter (5 minutes!)
In a mixing bowl:
- Beat eggs + sugar + pinch of salt until slightly foamy.
- Add lemon zest and melted butter; mix well.
- Add the flour and stir until smooth.
- Batter will be thināthis is correct.
3. Add the Apples
- Add all the thinly sliced apples into the bowl.
- Fold them into the batter until every slice is coated.
- You should have more apples than batterāthis is what creates the ācustard-pieā texture.
4. Pour and Bake
- Pour the mixture into your prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Bake 35ā40 minutes, or until:
- The top is lightly golden
- The center is set
- A toothpick comes out clean
5. Serve
Let cool for 10 minutes, then slice.
Serve:
- warm, with powdered sugar
- or with vanilla ice cream
- or with whipped cream
