⭐ Ingredients

For the Mashed Potatoes

  • 4–5 russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup milk (more if needed)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Ground Beef & Gravy

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional but recommended)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 ½ cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Salt, to taste
  • Optional: ½ tsp paprika or thyme

1. Make the Mashed Potatoes

  1. Place cubed potatoes in a pot and cover with cold water.
  2. Add ½ tsp salt to the water.
  3. Bring to a boil and cook 10–12 minutes or until fork-tender.
  4. Drain and return potatoes to the pot.
  5. Add butter + milk, and mash until smooth and creamy.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Add extra milk if they need thinning.

2. Cook the Ground Beef

  1. In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned.
  2. Add the chopped onion (and garlic if using).
  3. Cook 3–4 minutes more, until onions are softened.
  4. Drain excess grease, if needed.

3. Make the Gravy

  1. Push the beef to one side of the skillet.
  2. Add 2 tbsp butter to the empty side.
  3. Once melted, sprinkle in 2 tbsp flour and whisk to make a roux.
  4. Cook the flour mixture for 1 minute.
  5. Slowly pour in beef broth, stirring constantly.
  6. Mix everything together into a smooth gravy.
  7. Add Worcestershire, pepper, and salt (adjust carefully).
  8. Simmer on low 3–5 minutes until thickened.

4. Serve

Spoon a generous portion of mashed potatoes onto each plate.
Top with savory beef gravy.

Optional finishing touches:

  • Fresh parsley
  • Extra black pepper
  • A drizzle of cream in the gravy
