- 1 tbsp butter
- 1–2 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional)
- Squeeze of lemon juice
For the Yogurt Flan Custard
- 1 cup plain yogurt (Greek or regular)
- 1 cup milk (or evaporated milk for creamier texture)
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup sugar (or less, to taste)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
👩🍳 Full Recipe Instructions
1. Make the caramel
- Add sugar + water + lemon juice to a small saucepan.
- Heat on medium without stirring.
- Cook until the mixture turns amber-gold.
- Immediately pour the caramel into the bottom of a flan mold or baking dish.
- Swirl to coat the bottom evenly.
Let it cool and harden.
2. Cook the apples
- In a skillet, melt butter.
- Add diced apples, sugar, cinnamon (optional), and a splash of lemon.
- Cook 5–7 minutes until softened but not mushy.
- Spread the apples evenly on top of the cooled caramel layer.
3. Prepare the yogurt flan mixture
In a bowl, whisk together:
- yogurt
- milk
- eggs
- sugar
- vanilla
- pinch of salt
Mix until smooth (don’t overbeat—prevents bubbles).
4. Pour and bake
- Pour the flan mixture over the apple layer.
- Place the baking dish into a larger pan and fill the outer pan halfway with hot water (water bath).
- Bake at 325°F (160°C) for 45–60 minutes, or until the center is set but slightly jiggly.
5. Cool & chill
- Remove from water bath.
- Let it cool to room temperature.
- Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight for best texture.
6. Unmold
- Run a knife around the edges.
- Place a plate on top and flip quickly.
- The caramel will cascade over the flan and apples—beautiful!
🍎 Serving Suggestions
- Serve chilled with caramel drizzles.
- Add fresh apple slices or cinnamon on top.
- For extra silkiness, serve with a spoonful of yogurt or whipped cream.
