  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • ½ tsp chili powder (optional)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 box Texas toast (garlic toast)

  • Preheat oven according to the package directions (usually 425°F/220°C).
  • Place the Texas toast slices on a baking sheet.
  • Bake for about 5 minutes, just until lightly toasted.
(Don’t cook fully yet—you’ll finish them later.)

2. Make the Sloppy Joe Mixture

  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned.
  2. Add diced onion, green pepper, and garlic. Cook until soft, about 3–4 minutes.
  3. Drain excess grease if needed.
  4. Add:
    • Tomato sauce
    • Ketchup
    • Worcestershire
    • Brown sugar
    • Chili powder
    • Salt & pepper
  5. Stir and simmer for 5–10 minutes until thickened.

3. Assemble

  • Spoon the sloppy joe mixture generously onto each toasted slice of Texas toast.
  • Top with a handful of shredded cheese.

4. Bake

  • Return to the oven and bake 5–8 minutes, or until cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly browned.

Serve

  • Enjoy immediately—they’re best warm and crispy!
  • Great with fries, a salad, or coleslaw.
