Cheesesteak-Style Egg Rolls

🥟 Cheesesteak-Style Egg Rolls

Crispy golden wrappers filled with shaved steak, sautéed peppers and onions, and gooey cheese. Deep-fried or air-fried — both work beautifully.

📝 Ingredients (Makes 10–12 egg rolls)

For the Filling

  • 1 lb (450g) shaved ribeye or thin-sliced steak
  • 1 tbsp oil (vegetable or olive)
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup (100g) shredded provolone, mozzarella, or American cheese
    OR cheese slices rolled inside

For the Rolls

  • 10–12 egg roll wrappers
  • Water or beaten egg (for sealing)
  • Oil for frying

Dipping Sauce (optional)

  • Spicy mayo, chipotle ranch, or cheese sauce

🔪 Instructions

1. Cook the Filling

  1. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add onions and peppers; sauté 5–7 minutes until softened and lightly browned.
  3. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  4. Add shaved steak, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and Worcestershire.
  6. Cook until steak is browned and most liquid evaporates.
  7. Remove from heat and let cool 5–10 minutes (important so the cheese doesn’t melt too early).
  8. Stir in the shredded cheese or keep cheese slices separate to add while rolling.

2. Fill and Roll

  1. Lay an egg roll wrapper with a corner pointing toward you (diamond shape).
  2. Spoon 2–3 tablespoons of filling across the bottom third.
  3. Add extra cheese if using slices.
  4. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in sides.
  5. Roll up tightly.
  6. Brush the final corner with water or egg to seal.

Tip: Keep wrappers covered with a damp cloth so they don’t dry out.

3. Fry or Air Fry

Deep Fry

  1. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Fry egg rolls 3–4 minutes, turning until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Drain on paper towels.

Air Fry

  1. Preheat air fryer to 390°F (200°C).
  2. Spray rolls lightly with oil.
  3. Cook 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway, until crisp and golden.

Oven-Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Brush or spray rolls with oil.
  3. Bake 12–15 minutes, flipping once.
