🥟 Cheesesteak-Style Egg Rolls
Crispy golden wrappers filled with shaved steak, sautéed peppers and onions, and gooey cheese. Deep-fried or air-fried — both work beautifully.
📝 Ingredients (Makes 10–12 egg rolls)
For the Filling
- 1 lb (450g) shaved ribeye or thin-sliced steak
- 1 tbsp oil (vegetable or olive)
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp paprika (optional)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup (100g) shredded provolone, mozzarella, or American cheese
OR cheese slices rolled inside
For the Rolls
- 10–12 egg roll wrappers
- Water or beaten egg (for sealing)
- Oil for frying
Dipping Sauce (optional)
- Spicy mayo, chipotle ranch, or cheese sauce
🔪 Instructions
1. Cook the Filling
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add onions and peppers; sauté 5–7 minutes until softened and lightly browned.
- Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
- Add shaved steak, breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and Worcestershire.
- Cook until steak is browned and most liquid evaporates.
- Remove from heat and let cool 5–10 minutes (important so the cheese doesn’t melt too early).
- Stir in the shredded cheese or keep cheese slices separate to add while rolling.
2. Fill and Roll
- Lay an egg roll wrapper with a corner pointing toward you (diamond shape).
- Spoon 2–3 tablespoons of filling across the bottom third.
- Add extra cheese if using slices.
- Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in sides.
- Roll up tightly.
- Brush the final corner with water or egg to seal.
Tip: Keep wrappers covered with a damp cloth so they don’t dry out.
3. Fry or Air Fry
Deep Fry
- Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry egg rolls 3–4 minutes, turning until golden brown and crispy.
- Drain on paper towels.
Air Fry
- Preheat air fryer to 390°F (200°C).
- Spray rolls lightly with oil.
- Cook 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway, until crisp and golden.
Oven-Bake
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Brush or spray rolls with oil.
- Bake 12–15 minutes, flipping once.
