Cheesy Hot Dog Subs in the Air Fryer
These are really just cheesy subs made with hot dogs. They melt quickly, are a little indulgent, and are great when you want something fun that doesn’t take a lot of work.
Things you need
Four hot dog buns
Four hot dogs made of beef or pork
1½ cups of shredded Italian blend cheese or mozzarella
½ cup of mayonnaise
¼ cup of ketchup
1 teaspoon of paprika
½ teaspoon of garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon of onion powder
Optional toppings: sautéed onions, jalapeños, crushed red pepper, and oregano
How to do it
Get the buns ready.
Cut the hot dog buns in half, but not all the way through. Put them in a tray or basket for an air fryer that is lined with parchment paper.
Put in the base cheese.
Put a layer of shredded cheese inside each bun.
Put in the hot dogs.
Put one hot dog in each bun and gently press it into the cheese.
Combine the sauce.
Mix the mayo, ketchup, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder in a small bowl. Pour this sauce over the hot dogs.
Finish it off.
Add more shredded cheese on top and any other toppings you like, such as oregano.
Fry in the air.
Set the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbling, and slightly golden.
Serve warm.
Let them cool for a minute, then cut them up or eat them as they are when they’re still gooey.
Advice
If you want them to be even crunchier, toast the buns by themselves for 1 to 2 minutes first.
If you want something more filling, trade hot dogs for sausages.
These are great with fries or a simple salad on the side.
