1. Prep
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
2. Mix the batter
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk milk, egg, vanilla, and melted butter (if using).
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients.
- Stir gently until just combined — do not overmix.
3. Add the apples
- Fold in the chopped apples until evenly distributed.
- It should look thick and chunky.
4. Form the fritters
- Scoop heaping spoonfuls of the batter onto the baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart.
- Flatten them lightly with the back of the spoon for even baking.
5. Bake
- Bake for 12–14 minutes, or until golden around the edges and the centers are set.
6. Optional glaze
- Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.
- Drizzle the glaze over warm fritters for a classic apple-fritter finish.
