Main Casserole
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups thinly sliced potatoes (about 4–5 medium potatoes)
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken OR cream of cheddar soup
- 1 cup milk
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided)
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Optional: 1 cup sour cream (for extra creaminess)
- Optional: parsley or green onions for topping
🥣 Instructions
1. Preheat oven
- Preheat to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9×13 baking dish.
2. Cook the hamburger mixture
- In a skillet, cook ground beef + onion over medium heat until browned.
- Drain excess grease.
- Add garlic, paprika, salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder.
- Stir and cook 1 more minute.
3. Make the creamy sauce
- In a large bowl, mix together:
- Cream of mushroom soup
- Cream of chicken (or cheddar) soup
- Milk
- Sour cream (optional)
- Stir until smooth.
4. Assemble the casserole
- Layer half the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the baking dish.
- Spread half the cooked beef over them.
- Pour half the creamy sauce over the top.
- Sprinkle 1 cup cheese.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes, beef, sauce, and finish with the remaining cheese.
5. Bake
- Cover with foil and bake 60 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until bubbly and the potatoes are soft.
6. Serve
- Let rest 10 minutes before cutting (it thickens as it cools).
- Garnish with parsley or green onions if you like.
