Cook Time: 35–40 minutes

🧾 Ingredients

(Using what you provided + the rest needed for a full casserole-style bake)

Hamburger Steaks

  • 1½ lbs ground beef
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (or crushed crackers)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional but recommended)

Gravy Mixture

  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Optional: ½ cup sliced mushrooms

Cheese (optional but delicious)

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or monterey jack

🔥 Instructions

1. Preheat oven

Set oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. Make the hamburger steaks

In a mixing bowl, combine:

  • Ground beef
  • Egg
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Salt & pepper
  • Worcestershire sauce

Mix gently (don’t overwork) and form into 6 oval patties.

3. Brown the patties

Heat a skillet over medium heat.
Sear patties 2–3 minutes per side until browned but not fully cooked.
Transfer to a baking dish.

(Browning adds flavor and keeps them from falling apart.)

4. Make the gravy

In the same skillet, add:

  • Sliced onion
  • Optional mushrooms

Cook 3–4 minutes until softened.

Add:

  • Cream of mushroom soup
  • Beef broth
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Worcestershire sauce

Whisk until smooth and heated through.

5. Pour over patties

Pour the gravy mixture evenly over the browned hamburger steaks in the baking dish.

6. Bake

Cover with foil and bake 25–30 minutes.

Optional:
Remove foil, add cheese, and bake 5–10 more minutes until melted and bubbly.

7. Serve

Let rest 5 minutes.
Serve over:

  • Mashed potatoes
  • Rice
  • Noodles
  • Or with roasted vegetables

The gravy + meat together is pure comfort food.

⭐ Tips

  • For thicker gravy → reduce broth to ¼ cup.
  • For more savory flavor → add a splash of soy sauce to the gravy.
  • For a healthier version → use lean beef or turkey.
