🍩 Sfenj
Ingredients:
500 g all-purpose flour (about 4 cups)
1 tbsp active dry yeast
1 tsp sugar
½ tsp salt
Warm water (as needed for the dough)
Oil for frying
Instructions:
1. Prepare the dough
In a large bowl, mix flour + salt + sugar + yeast .
Add warm water little by little and start mixing with your hand.
The dough should be very soft and sticky (similar to pancake batter but thicker).
Knead well for 10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and stretchy.
2. Let it rise
Cover the dough and let it rise for 45 minutes to 1 hour , until doubled in size.
3. Shape the sfenj
Wet your hands with water, take a small ball of dough,
Use your fingers to make a hole in the middle (donut shape).
Place them on a greased surface to rest.
4. Frying
Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
Fry the sfenj one by one, flipping until golden on both sides.
The oil should be medium-hot so they puff up without absorbing too much oil.
5. Serve
Serve hot with honey or powdered sugar.
Crispy on the outside, airy on the inside!
